Hunter begins seeing Belos again and panics as he tries to convince Luz to believe him by revealing their plan to find the Titan Blood and go to get it themselves before Belos does, he has Flapjack get the Rebus, but when he hesitates, Belos takes him over briefly and angrily repeats himself, to which he doesn't understand why. Hunter begins losing control of himself and peels of a bandage to find that Belos has entered his body through the cut on his finger and takes off after seeing him again, separating from Luz, but when she finds him, Belos has completely overtaken Hunter and forces him to attack Luz against his will. Camilla rescues Hunter and Belos releases him as he escapes, with Hunter dying, only for Flapjack to revive him at the cost of his own life, which Hunter is immediately made aware of and mourns him. After Luz admits her role in helping Belos find the Collector, Hunter tells Luz that all Belos ever does is use people, and if it wasn't her, it would've been someone else, and insists that they finish this fight together for Flapjack's sake, which Luz agrees. As Hunter approaches the portal, he becomes despondent as he returns to the Boiling Isles, mourning Flapjack for his sacrifice.

Hunter begins to cry in tears of joy upon hearing this and Luz wraps her arm around him. Later in the Haunted Hayride, Hunter once again suspects Belos and he goes to Luz. Hunter then admits that he and the group had planned to have a surprise for Luz in gratitude for all she and her mother had done for them. In "Labyrinth Runners", when Gus asks Hunter if he knows where Luz is, Hunter is surprised that Luz isn't with Eda, causing him to worry.

Flapjack tries to get Hunter back in control, but becomes annoyed, Belos crushes him instead. However, Belos hurting Flapjack causes him to regain control and he tosses the blood into a lake. Camila dives in and gets him out as Belos leaves Hunter and smashes the blood against an arch to get back to the Demon Realm.

Hunter then returns to Belos empty handed, but doesn't tell him about Luz, he tries to get him to listen to him about how wild magic could help him, but Belos lashes out at him, so he apologizes and leaves, he passes Kikimora who notices the singe she gave him during the fight and retires to his room where a red cardinal Palisman has followed him and chooses him as his owner, which confuses him. In "Hunting Palismen", he begs Emperor Belos to let him help him with his declining condition using wild magic, which his uncle immediately shuts down, stating that wild magic is the reason that their family is gone and instead sends him out to find more palismen after depleting their resources. The Golden Guard abducts the tree filled with palismen at Hexside, unknowingly kidnaping Luz in the process, who then surprises him by rocketing him off of his own ship with a fire glyph, only to for him to teleport back where he captures Luz, who sends his staff flying, and soon crash lands in Latissa because of Kikimora.

The following day, as the others are about to search around town, he is forced to stay behind after cosplaying as O'Bailey. When the others leave, he finally learns to accept himself despite not knowing who he is supposed to be. Soon, Flapjack notices a green substance on the floor and Hunter touches it with his injured finger. Soon after he sees Belos, Hunter spends the day questioning if Belos truly is alive and tasks Luz with searching the house with him. After finding no trace of Belos, he is relived and starts to cry after Luz declares him family. Back with the others, Gus explains that he and Hunter will attend the Gravesfield Halloween Festival as Captain Avery and Chief Engineer O'Bailey respectively.

Amity reluctantly obliges, but Hunter immediately betrays her by tripping her down and rushes towards Eclipse Lake. Later, after realizing what Luz's messages truly meant, Amity tries to console Hunter by telling him that there are people out there who won't make him feel worthless, and offers him her hand. However, Hunter sees the key dangling from her neck and attempts to grab it, resulting in a fight between the duo. Hunter and Amity eventually come to a stalemate, but Amity is forced to hand the key over when Hunter threatens Luz's safety. Hunter appreciates Amity for doing so, and flies away without realizing Amity has actually broken the key, leaking half the Titan's Blood onto her glove. As the previous Golden Guard had fallen or turned against Belos in some way, Belos lied to Hunter that he is his only surviving family after an incident that involved wild magic.

The puppets stat to run as Willow finds one of her dads and runs after him, only for Hunter to stop her and pull her to safety as Eda rampages through town as the Owl Beast. Soon, King and the Collector arrive and stop Eda, soon revealed to be Terra Snapdragon dressed as Eda. He and the others watch in horror as Terra is turned into a puppet after angering the Collector. King and the Collector gather up the puppets before heading back to their house. Luz decides to go after them and the group is soon found by Skara, Barcus, and Matt Tholomule.

As of February 19, 2022, Hunter & Luz is the character's most popular platonic relationship on AO3 and Edric/Hunter is the romantic one despite two of them not having directly interacted in the series yet. [9] Though less popular than Lumity, Lunter is also a common ship that gets backlash from other fans, some of whom see Lunter as a homophobic attack on a queer canon couple. After their interactions on the second season, Huntlow (Hunter/Wilow) has also gained some popularity.

As they search, Hunter gets separated from Luz and Belos starts to take control of his body. During their conversation, Hunter messes up with the sewing machine, accidentally cutting himself. After Gus patches him up, he asks Hunter what it was like working for Belos. Hunter describes his time as the Golden Guard as spending most of his training and studying with limited permissions and no time to socialize with others. After stated he misses knowing who he's supposed to be, Gus says he misses his father and Hunter promises they will get back.

An alarm was activated at the home and a large LAPD presence responded, including air support and the mayor's security detail. Sunday evening, LAPD identified the suspect as Ephraim Matthew Hunter, 29, of Los Angeles. Ryutaro Ogami is a prominent public figure, who specializes in fixing mishaps and incidents from behind the shadows, but with an unconventional approach.

Hunter and Luz explore the painting to find Belos preaching to a crowd how the Titan I desired them to have controlled magic as explosions occur. As Hunter takes notice of the good Belos has two extra, they see him reprimanding a Golden Guard for nearly killing him and instructs him to blow up the town. In another painting they see Belos tell lathe survivors of a destroyed town that wild magic is to blame.

During his time as the Golden Guard, Hunter acted authoritative and confident in the persona, while praising and advocating for the cause of Emperor Belos. He was, however, more laid-back and easygoing than Emperor Belos, being sometimes comedic and snarky in his dialogue. Despite his high-ranking position and upper-class status, he never takes advantage of his power for personal gain, only using his authority when ordered by Emperor Belos himself.

Afterwards, he begins opening up to the idea of making friends with Willow, Gus and possibly Luz, the former of whom he is implied to have developed feelings for. However, it was soon revealed that Darius lashed out like that because he wanted the young Golden Guard to be more like his predecessor, to rebel a little and to have a life and friends outside of the Emperor's Coven. When Hunter showed a willingness to rebel, Darius gave him a scroll and helped him set up a Penstagram account, in addition to keeping Flapjack, his palisman, a secret from Belos. Months later, when Hunter returns to the Demon Realm, Darius welcomes him with head pats, and appears to look after him in the epilogue.

“The Owl House” debuted in 2020, at a time when LGBTQ visibility on TV was on an upswing. Thanks to the behind-the-scenes efforts of queer creators on shows such as Cartoon Network’s “Steven Universe” and Netflix’s “She-Ra and the Princesses of Power,” queer characters were increasingly front and center and thriving on screen, even in kid-friendly animation. And though Disney had long been criticized as behind the curve compared with other studios and platforms when it came to LGBTQ representation — the company’s own employees pointed to this track record when calling out the company’s lackluster initial response to Florida’s so-called “Don’t Say Gay” bill last year — “The Owl House” raised the bar.
